Benefits of Registering for GST

Ease of Doing Business

With a single registration and unified compliance system, businesses can manage their tax obligations more efficiently. This is particularly beneficial for start-ups and SMEs.

Legal Recognition

By registering under GST, a business gains official recognition as a supplier of goods or services. This enhances credibility and builds trust with customers and partners.

Input Tax Credit (ITC)

Registered businesses can offset the GST paid on purchases against the GST collected on sales. This reduces the overall tax liability and improves cash flow.

📈 Composition Scheme for Small Businesses

Small businesses with lower turnover can opt for GST’s Composition Scheme, paying tax at a fixed reduced rate. This lowers compliance requirements and simplifies accounting.

Higher Threshold for Registration

Only businesses with annual turnover above ₹40 lakh (₹20 lakh for special category states) are required to register under GST, exempting many micro and small enterprises from mandatory compliance

Elimination of Cascading Taxes

GST removes the "tax on tax" effect by allowing seamless input credit across the supply chain, resulting in fairer pricing for consumers and better margins for businesses.

GST Registration FAQs

GST (Goods and Services Tax) is a unified indirect tax system in India that has replaced many previous taxes like VAT, Service Tax, Excise, etc. It is applicable to the supply of goods and services across India.

GST registration is mandatory for:

  • Businesses with turnover above ₹40 lakhs (goods) / ₹20 lakhs (services)
  • Inter-state suppliers
  • E-commerce sellers
  • Service providers through online platforms
  • Casual and non-resident taxable persons

There are four types of GST:

  • CGST – Central GST
  • SGST – State GST
  • IGST – Integrated GST
  • UTGST – Union Territory GST

Common GST returns include:

  • GSTR-1 – Monthly outward supplies (due 11th of next month)
  • GSTR-3B – Summary return (due 20th of next month)
  • CMP-08 – Quarterly for composition dealers

GSTR-9/9C – Annual return

ITC allows businesses to reduce the tax they pay on inputs (purchases) from the tax they collect on outputs (sales). Proper invoices and timely return filing are essential to claim ITC.

Yes, even if your turnover is below the threshold limit, you can voluntarily register for GST to avail benefits like ITC and to improve business credibility.

This is a simplified GST scheme for small taxpayers with turnover up to ₹1.5 crore. They pay GST at a fixed rate and file quarterly returns but cannot claim ITC.

Usually, GST registration is completed within 3–7 working days, provided all documents are valid and there is no query raised by the GST department.

Late filing attracts:

  • A late fee (₹50 per day or ₹20 per day for nil returns)
  • Interest on tax liability (18% p.a.)
  • Risk of blocking ITC or cancellation of registration

At TaxShaala, we offer complete GST solutions—from registration and return filing to ITC reconciliation and department notices. Our expert team ensures timely compliance, so you avoid penalties and stay focused on your business.
